Nigerian Stocks paying dividends in September

Hello people, still continuing with our stock watch, today we would be taking a look at Nigerian Companies scheduled to make dividend payment in the month of September. We would also take a look at the closure of register dates for the shares. Before we begin, let’s take a look at what closure of register means for companies. For those who do not know, closure of register is the period when a company will not handle adjustments to the register or requests to transfer shares. When dividend payments are fast approaching, companies set a date for the closure of registers to indicate to investors that any intending request to transfer shares should be made before the date else it would not be processed and dividends would be paid to the original shareholder (i.e. Owner of shares before sending the request). So effectively, the request is put on hold until the dividends are transferred.

The Nigerian Banking industry

Some 11 years ago, there was a consolidation exercise in the banking industry in Nigeria, initiated by the then CBN governor, Charles Soludo. It was announced in Soludo’s thirteen point agenda that there would be a 25bn recapitalization exercise of banks, and in order for the banks to achieve this new paid up capital, there would be a consolidation of banking institutions through mergers and acquisitions. It was further revealed that the capitalization and consolidation exercise were to be completed by 31^st December 2005, and any bank who fails to meet the paid up capital by end of December 2005 or which remain un-sound/marginal would be liquidated by January 2006”.

Why fuel scarcity may be prolonged in Nigeria

The fuel scarcity still lingers in Nigeria, and since my last post on the (fuel scarcity in Nigeria), it had gotten worse. News received is that the fuel scarcity is fueled (pun intended..lol..) by a lack of foreign exchange. The parallel market rate of the naira to the dollar as at the 10^th of April 2016 is between 320 naira to a dollar even though the CBN holds an official rate of a little below 200 naira to a dollar.

Investing in the Stock Market, and how to benefit by trading in it.

Thirteen (13) years ago, the Nigerian stock market was on a journey to becoming bullish. People were trading stocks, and the Nigerian populace became more aware of the stock market; this was in the year 2003. It all began as a result of the economic reforms that began in 2003, earning Nigeria a BB-credit rating which led to US$18bn debt write-off and created pension funds which have several billions of Naira to be invested in Nigerian securities, investors’ confidence was ignited and lifted in Nigeria Stock Market. The banking sector was also a catalyst to the bullish run of the Nigerian stock market.
